Yasmin Sultana, a research-focused faculty member, is an Assistant Professor at Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, Bangladesh. With her passion for studying the sociological aspects of social mobility, public policies, suicide, education, peasant studies,  gender, and area studies, Sultana wants to be a prominent figure in these fields.

 

A Master of Social Science degree holder from the University of Dhaka, Sultana boasts an impressive academic record, with a CGPA of 3.80 and the distinction of ranking first in her class. Her academic achievements have been acknowledged with various scholarships, including the General Postgraduate Scholarship and the Two-Time National Merit Scholarship.

 

Yasmin Sultana's professional journey has been marked with some milestones. As a lecturer, she has served at the Green University of Bangladesh and the University of South Asia. Additionally, Sultana has held leadership positions as the Assistant Director (Cafeteria) and Assistant Provost at Begum Rokeya University.

 

An active member of the academic community, Sultana is a lifetime member of the Bangladesh Evaluation Society, Dhaka University Sociology Alumni, Dhaka University Alumni, as well as member of the International Sociological Association (ISA), American Sociological Association (ASA) and Asiatic Society of Bangladesh. Sultana's expertise is well-recognized, and she serves with the Regional Editor's team (Bengali) of Global Dialogue, a quarterly magazine of ISA.

 

With her vast research interests, which encompass gender studies, social mobility, education, peasant studies, suicide, and area studies of North Bengal and South Asia, Sultana's research has been published in several prestigious journals. These include the Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh (Humanities), the Asian Journal of Psychiatry, and the Journal of Sociology of Nazmul Karim Study Center, DU.


Sultana has taken on the team leader role for several funded research projects. She has led a research team funded by NAPD, another team funded by NAEM twice, and has conducted four individual research projects funded by BRUR.


Yasmin Sultana has been an active participant in personal and professional development, taking part in numerous training programs to enhance her skills and knowledge. As a dedicated academic, Sultana wants to contribute a significant role to the field of sociology and strives to educate students while serving Begum Rokeya University and the academic community.
